Sundance Film Festival 2013: ‘Fruitvale’ and ‘Jiseul’ win top honors

Ryan Coogler’s drama "Fruitvale" won both the audience award and US Grand Jury Prize over the weekend at the Sundance Film Festival, according to the Hollywood Reporter.
The World Cinema Grand Jury Prize went to the South Korean drama "Jiseul" about people forced to relocate and best documentary went to the Cambodian produced "A River Changes Course," the Salt Lake Tribune reported.
"Fruitvale" is based on the 2009 shooting of Oscar Grant by a BART policeman in Oakland, California, a incident which ignited the area's racial tensions.
“It’s about how we treat people we love the most, and how we treat the people we don’t know," Coogler said. "To get this award means it had a profound impact on the audiences who saw it.“
