Spain: Shakira gives birth to healthy boy

Colombian pop singer Shakira is now the proud mother of a baby boy.

"We are happy to announce the birth of Milan Piqué Mebarak, son of Shakira Mebarak and Gerard Piqué, born January 22nd at 9:36 pm, in Barcelona, Spain," said a statement issued by Shakira.

USA Today reported both the singer and baby are in good health.

Piqué is a Spanish soccer player.

The newspaper said the name Milan, which is pronounced "MEE-lahn" has multiple meanings.

In Slavic it translates to "loving" and "gracious, in Sanskrit, "unification," and it is also, of course, the name of one of Italy's major cities.

According to the Huffington Post, the baby came two days later than expected. The couple had hoped it would arrive on February 2, their birthdays.
