Southern California shooter identified as Ali Syed (VIDEO)

At least four people are dead following a series of shootings and carjackings in Southern California today.

Authorities are processing at least six crime scenes, The Associated Press reported.

They believe the violence began in Ladera Ranch, where a woman was found shot dead at a home at around 4:45 a.m., according to the Los Angeles Times.

The suspect, described as a man in his 20s, shot himself as the authorities closed in on him.

The AP said that the shooter had been identified as part-time student Ali Syed, who lived at the Ladera Ranch residence where the first victim was found.

Syed reportedly told one carjacking victim, "I don’t want to hurt you. I killed somebody. Today is my last day," according to Tustin police Chief Scott Jordan.

Multiple shootings and carjackings were then reported in Tustin and at the Santa Ana border before the suspect apparently shot and killed himself in Orange, KNBC reported.

Witnesses reported seeing the suspect armed with two long guns, according to KTLA.

At least three people were shot dead in the spree, although authorities said there could be more victims, the AP reported.

Several other people were wounded. Their conditions were not immediately known.
