Sofia Vergara named highest-paid actress on television

Sofia Vergara, star of the sitcom "Modern Family" on ABC, earned more money than any other television actress last year, Forbes reported in its cover story. In its rankings, Forbes looked at actresses' earnings between May 2011 and May 2012, and found that Vergara earned $19 million during that time period. Kim Kardashian came in second place with $1 million less than Vergara's earnings, making it a close race by rich people standards.

Vergara, a 40-year-old actress from Colombia, didn't earn all that money just from the television show. Rather, it was her massive list of endorsements that put her on top. Vergara has appeared in advertisements for Cover Girl, Pepsi, Burger King, Comcast and Statefarm, USA Today reported.  Vergara also starred in four movies during that time span.

Others on the list include Bethenny Frankel, Zooey Deschanel, and all four of the leads from the show "Desperate Housewives," which recently ended, the Washington Post said.
