Secret Santa gives $100,000 to Sandy victims in New York, New Jersey (VIDEO)
An anonymous Kansas City, Missouri, businessman is handing out $100,000 in $100 bills (stamped with Secret Santa) to victims of superstorm Sandy in New York and New Jersey.
This Santa doesn’t need reindeer, instead opting for uniformed police officers and FBI agents wearing red hats with “elf” written across them.
That’s what happens when you give away $100,000 to Hurricane Sandy victims in New York and New Jersey.
The anonymous Kansas City, Missouri, man toured shelters, churches and thrift stores passing out $100 bills with “Secret Santa” stamped on them, The Associated Press reported.
“The money is not the point at all,” he told the AP. “It’s about the random acts of kindness. I’m just setting an example, and if 10 percent of the people who see me emulate what I’m doing, anybody can be a Secret Santa.”
This year’s anonymous Santa said he was inspired by Larry Stewart, who spent years in Kansas City handing out money to the needy.
Stewart died in 2007 of cancer at age 58. He reportedly gave away $1.3 million over 26 years.
Sandy killed at least 125 people, most in New York and New Jersey, as hurricane-force winds dumped rain and snow from Haiti to New Haven, Connecticut.
The superstorm’s economic impact on the US is estimated at $62 billion.
