Thomas Beatie, the world's first known man to give birth, has split from his wife of nine years.
Beatie made the announcement during a taping of the CBS daytime TV show The Doctors which airs on May 7.
During that show, he also confirms he has undergone the final stages of his female-to-male gender reassignment surgery. Beatie first became pregnant in 2007.
"Nancy hasn’t seen the new me yet," Beatie reveals, according to People.
"Like all marriages, we have our ups and downs, and we’re going through a rough patch right now. At the moment, we’re separated."
Beatie has had three children with wife, Nancy, all through artificial insemination using donor sperm., ABC News reports.
According to ABC, Beatie, up until now, had not had “bottom” surgery, known as phalloplasty, to create an artificial penis. He kept his female reproductive organs so he could bear chlldren after the couple found out Nancy could not.
