Planes collide at JFK airport
Authorities are investigating how a taxiing passenger jet bumped a parked Jet Blue plane at John F. Kennedy Airport on Saturday March 9, 2013.
NEW YORK – Two planes carrying 155 passengers collided on the tarmac of JFK airport Saturday morning.
No one was injured in the incident which occurred when an Air India aircraft bumped a Jet Blue plane about 6.15am, a spokesman for Jet Blue said, WABC reported.
The Air India aircraft was taxiing to the terminal while the Jet Blue Flight 145 which was bound for West Palm Beach, Florida, was parked at the gate, preparing for departure.
According to Jet Blue spokesman Alex Headrick, the Air India jet was taxiing to the terminal when its left wing tip hit the parked Jet Blue Flight 145 which was bound for West Palm Beach, Florida, CBS reported.
He said the aircraft sustained damage to the rear rudder and the Air India jet incurred damage to the aircraft's left wing tip.
No injuries were reported.
The Federal Aviation Administration has launched an investigation. It said the aircraft were not under air traffic control at the time of the accident.
