Pistorius and relay team out, then in, at London Olympics

Oscar Pistorius and his relay teammates were knocked out of the 4×400-meter relay – then readmitted – following a collision during the race, the Associated Press reported.

Twelve days ago, Pistorius, nicknamed the “Blade Runner,” made history as the first amputee to compete in track at the Olympics, wrote the Washington Post.

According to the AP, a jury said South Africa “had been severely damaged” after Ofentse Mogawane collided with Kenyan runner Vincent Kiilu, who cut across him too soon in the second section of the heat.

While other runners took off with their batons after the changeover, Pistorius saw the baton wasn’t coming and walked off the track upset.

A double-amputee who runs with carbon-fiber blades, Pistorius and the team appealed the decision and won.
