Paul McCartney to receive legion of honor in France
Musician Sir Paul McCartney will receive the French legion of honor in Paris on September 8, 2012.
Paul McCartney has been nominated for the legion of honor for services to music, according to the Associated Press.
The former Beatle will be decorated as an officer by French President Francois Hollande during a ceremony on Saturday in Paris.
The legion of honor is France's highest cultural distinction, according to the Guardian. McCartney is the first British musician to receive the honor, which is usually reserved for French citizens.

The Guardian noted that more than 17,000 people have been given the rank of officer, the legion's middle grade. The special medal that denotes an officer of the legion of honor must be purchased by members. It costs approximately $873.
According to E! Online, McCartney will be joining the ranks of other foreign recipients such as Barbra Streisand, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Liza Minelli, J.K. Rowling and Steven Spielberg. McCartney was previously knighted by Queen Elizabeth and also received the Kennedy Center Honors from President Obama.
