Newt Gingrich site pokes fun at Gingrich

GlobalPost

Newt Gingrich is suffering the consequences of what happens when you don’t own your own domain name.

Typing in newtgingrich.com won’t lead to the former Congressman’s campaign site for the 2012 elections. Rather, the visitor will be sent to various sites and articles that criticize the GOP presidential candidate.

The site might redirect you to a Washington Post article about when his entire senior campaign staff resigned, or when Gingrich mistakenly gave a porn company an “Entrepreneur of The Year” award by his Business Defense and Advisory Council.

Visiting the URL might also lead you to the site of Tiffany & Co., where Gingrich once had $500,000 in debt.

The culprits? A Democratic group called American Bridge for the 21st Century founded by David Brock; Rodell Mollineau, a former aide to Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid; and Kathleen Kennedy Townsend, the former lieutenant governor of Maryland, USA Today reported

To add salt to the wounds, the group put up the domain name for sale on Craigslist for the asking price of $1 million.

The ad's description is laced with thinly-veiled wisecracks against Gingrich.

“In true holiday spirit, we figured it might go to someone with greater need than us. Maybe someone trying to get that added edge going into 2012, or perhaps someone who may have been too busy earlier in the year to secure it on their own.”

The ad continued:

“We thought of giving it away, but we wouldn't want to be accused of being socialists. So, make your best offer. We're asking for $1 million, but we'd be happy to accept $500,000 in bling. Heck in the spirit of Christmas we might even let it go for $10,000.”
