‘New Girl’ star Zooey Deschanel finalizes divorce from Death Cab for Cutie singer Ben Gibbard

"New Girl" television star Zooey Deschanel has finalized her divorce from Ben Gibbard, singer for the band "Death Cab for Cutie."

CBS News reported the couple were married in September 2009 and were together for about three years.

Court documents said Deschanel cited "irreconcilable differences," US Weekly said.

They were separated for two months before Deschanel filed for divorce in December 2011.

A few months before their separation, Gibbard spoke adoringly about the first time he had met his wife.

"I'd seen her movies and obviously I thought she was very beautiful," Gibbard told New York magazine. "I was just awestruck that she was even talking to me."

Us Weekly said Deschanel is now seeing screenwriter Jamie Linden, who has written scripts for "Dear John" and "We Are Marshall."

Last week, the actress was nominated for a Golden Globe for her role in "New Girl."
