Morgan Freeman donates $1 million to pro-Obama super PAC

Morgan Freeman is the latest Hollywood supporter to donate to the Obama re-election effort.

On Thursday, the pro-Obama super PAC, Priorities USA, revealed that Freeman donated $1 million to them last month, according The Los Angeles Times. The super PAC pulled in $6 million in June, with its biggest donation coming from Irwin Jacobs, the former director of Qualcomm Inc., and his wife, who donated $2 million.

In a statement, Freeman urged others to support Obama. According to Politico, he said:

"President Obama has done a remarkable job in historically difficult circumstances. He ended combat operations in Iraq, put in place sensible reforms of Wall Street, saved the auto industry and protected the health care of every American. He has led our nation to be more tolerant and placed impressive, accomplished women on the Supreme Court. In return, he is the target of hundreds of millions of dollars from right-wing sources. I am proud to lend my voice — and support — to those who defend him. Priorities USA Action is doing a great job of protecting the values I believe in. I am happy to help them and I hope others will join me."

The New York Times noted that producer Jeffrey Katzenberg gave $2 million to the group, and other Hollywood donors to the cause included J.J. Abrams, Steven Spielberg, Bill Maher and Chelsea Handler.
