“Moonrise Kingdom” film opens in limited US release

Wes Anderson's latest film "Moonrise Kingdom," which recently opened the Cannes Film Festival, debuted this weekend across the US in limited release.

The film, set on an island off the coast of New England in the summer of 1965, follows two 12-year-olds who fall in love, make a secret pact and run away together, according to CBS News.

The film stars Bill Murray, Edward Norton, Frances McDormand, Tilda Swinton and Jason Schwartzman.

Anderson is the director of "Rushmore" and ''The Royal Tenenbaums" and is known for his sense of whimsy and incredible attention to detail.

The Associated Press reported Anderson, whose last film was the animated "The Fantastic Mr. Fox," enjoyed making the live-action film.

"It was nice to have the sort of lack of control that you get on the set," Anderson told the AP at Cannes. "It's nice to go on location with a group. That's something I kind of missed."

As for what the movie is about, Anderson said "it's a memory of an emotion, but kind of a memory of a fantasy as well. Everything that happens in the story is what didn't happen to me."
