A Montana man killed the television host of "A Rifleman's Journal" in an apparent jealous rage, police said.

The shooting happened Friday while the famous hunter and television personality was visiting the man's wife.

It is alleged the shooter, Wayne Bengston, 41, then assaulted his wife, took his toddler son to a relative's house and drove to his home about 25 miles away in West Glacier, where he committed suicide, Whitefish Police Chief Bill Dial said, AP reported.

"It's pretty much an open-and-closed case. Homicide and suicide," Dial said.

SWAT police found Bengston in his house with a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head.

Rodriguez, who resides in Sugar Land, Texas, was at the woman's mother's house at around 10:30 pm when the incident occurred.

It is unclear what his relationship was with the woman and why he was in Montana.

The Daily Mail reported that Rodriguez was also the owner of Global Adventure Outfitters and the editor of Shooting Times magazine.

Bengston worked for the US Forest Service.
