Man killed by bees as mows lawn

A Texas man was killed by a hive of bees while mowing the lawn in his backyard.

The bees attacked 65-year-old Juan Urrita so many times that it affected his airways and he died.

His niece Leticia Arceneaux told KHOU that her uncle was on a ride-on mower on Thursday when the tragedy happened. His brother was also helping him in the garden at the time.

She believes the noise from the mower disturbed the hive. Both men were attacked but Urrita was stung repeatedly.

"When I get there to see my father, he says that the doctor just told him that his brother did not make it, that he was stung so many times that it closed his airwaves," she said.

The New York Daily News said
when the ambulance arrived at the Bexar County home, he had stopped breathing.

Urrita was a retired father of four, and his brother Frank had also recently retired, according to KHOU.
