Man charged with assault after throwing French fries at step daughter

On the surface, it sounds like a food fight. But police say it's far more serious. A man in Lowell, Massachusetts allegedly threw French fries at his step daughter. Afterwards, he was charged with assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, the Lowell Sun reported

Police say that James Hackett, 26, got in a fight with his wife as they left a McDonald's. His wife's daughter then joined in the fight, CBS reported. In response, Hackett threw his hot, oily French fries at her face. Luckily, the girl was not seriously hurt.

Following the fry-throwing, Hackett was arrested and asked to make a plea in the Lowell District Court on Monday, the Lowell Sun reported. He pleaded not guilty to assault with a dangerous weapon and was released from jail without bail. He has been ordered to stay away from his step daughter and also must make a court appearance in August to address the charges. The step daughter is just 11 years old.
