Singer Lupe Fiasco was escorted off stage at an event before President Obama’s inauguration after he went on a 30 minute long anti-Obama rant on January 20, 2013.
Rapper Lupe Fiasco was escorted off stage after going on an anti-Obama rant at the StartUp RockOn event on Sunday in Washington.
"Limbaugh is a racist, Glenn Beck is a racist," he rapped, according to USA Today. "Gaza Strip was getting bombed, Obama didn't say (bleep). That's why I ain't vote for him, next one either."
According to witnesses, the rapper kept repeating politically charged lyrics when the event officials took action, Politico said.
Josh Rogin, a writer for Foreign Policy, tweeted from the event:
A statement from StartUp RockOn released on Monday said:
Lupe Fiasco performed at this private event, and as you may have read, he left the stage earlier than we had planned. But Lupe Fiasco was not “kicked off stage” for an “anti-Obama rant.” We are staunch supporters of free speech, and free political speech. This was not about his opinions. Instead, after a bizarrely repetitive, jarring performance that left the crowd vocally dissatisfied, organizers decided to move on to the next act.
Watch the video (via NowThis News) and decide for yourself if it was because of Fiasco's "anti-Obama rant" or "jarring performance" that he got booted off stage:
