Louisiana shooting leaves one officer dead, two wounded

One police officer was shot dead and two sheriff's deputies wounded while responding to a house fire in southern Louisiana on Saturday.

Police have arrested in man in connection with the shooting in Charenton, The Associated Press reported.

According to state troopers, the man opened fire on the Chitimacha tribal police officer and St. Mary's Parish sheriff's deputies when they responded to a report of a trailer home fire near Cypress Bayou Casino.

The Chitimacha officer died at the scene, according to The Advocate of Baton Rouge.

The two sheriff's deputies were in critical condition at separate hospitals, according to the Times-Picayune.

Firefighters were still trying to extinguish the blaze.

The names of the suspect and the officers were not immediately released, according to the AP.
