Lady Gaga: Korea bars under-18s from ‘Born This Way’ concert

While the West may be largely beyond shock, sexual boundaries remain to be pushed in Asia. After sustained protest by conservative Christians in South Korea, authorities there have banned minors under the age of 18 from attending a Lady Gaga concert, according to the BBC.

Reuters reports that Christian groups today persisted in their opposition to the star’s taboo appearance there, calling on her today to cancel her concert, which they said was “pornographic” and an endorsement of homosexuality.

The BBC said Korea’s media ratings board have declared that Gaga’s "Born This Way Ball" is too sexual, objecting to the music and calling its performances “obscene.”

“Born This Way” is Gaga’s second studio album and was released last year. The album incorporates religious iconography and the eponymous song celebrates gay identity and tells homosexuals to take pride in themselves: “Don’t be a drag, just be a queen//Just love yourself and you’re set/I’m on the right track, baby/I was born this way.”

The BBC said tens of thousands of fans flocked to Olympic Stadium to see the star while some protests were held outside the stadium.

According to The Korea Herald, Gaga arrived in Seoul a week ago and spent the week avoiding public appearances.
