Josh Smith suspended for one game

After suffering a tough loss on Monday, the Atlanta Hawks have suspended forward Josh Smith for one game. The suspension is "for conduct detrimental to the team," the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported, although officials would not go into specifics.

Coach Larry Drew told the ACJ that Smith was thrown out of practice on Tuesday after an "incident" took place."We all came back in agreement that we had to take the measure that we did," Drew said.

The Hawks have lost six of their last seven games and will call on Johan Petro to replace Smith tonight, Sports Illustrated reported.

Smith is missing tonight's game against the Nets.

"Josh and I discussed the issue and he understood and accepted this course of action," manager Danny Ferry told USA Today. "We are confident that he will respond positively, learn from this experience and come back with a renewed sense of purpose to the team moving forward."
