Costco shoppers in California got a surprise on Tuesday.
Comedian Joan Rivers handcuffed herself to a shopping cart to protest Costco’s decision to ban her bestselling book, claiming censorship.
According to ABC News, Rivers "caused a commotion" and even brought and signed copies of her bestselling novel, “I Hate Everyone … Starting with Me,” with a megaphone in tow.
ABC reported Rivers said Costco objected to two parody testimonials on the back cover from Marie Antoinette and Wilt Chamberlain.
The New York Daily News wrote one of the fake reviews from Marie Antoinette read: "I don't like her. Let her eat s–t."
“This is very frightening and it is truly about the First Amendment,” Rivers told ABC affiliate KABC-TV. “This is America and I don’t want to see censorship.”
Meanwhile, River told the New York Daily News, "I can't divulge where [I’ll strike next], only Costco beware… If they throw [my book] out of the Brooklyn store, it would break my heart."
