Jamie Waylett jailed: Harry Potter actor gets jail time for participating in 2011 London riots

Jamie Waylett, a British actor who appeared as Hogwarts bully Vincent Crabbe in six of the Harry Potter movies, will spend up to two years in jail for participating in the London riots last year, Reuters reported.

Waylett, 22, was sentenced to two years in prison for violent disorder and one year for handling stolen goods, according to ABC News. He will serve both sentences concurrently.

Security cameras captured images of Waylett carrying a petrol bomb in the Chalk Farm area of north London, BBC News reported. They also recorded him drinking from a stolen bottle of Champagne he’d accepted from a looter who’d hit a Sainsbury's supermarket.

The actor was cleared of intending to destroy or damage property with the petrol bomb he carried, Reuters reported.

"The footage shows you in the near vicinity of a Sainsbury's in Camden which was being looted,” Judge Simon Carr said to Waylett, according to BBC News. “You were pictured on a number of occasions with a bottle full of petrol with a rag as a wick. I accept entirely the jury's verdict that you did not throw or have any intention of throwing it, but merely being in possession of it would have been terrifying to anyone who saw you."

Waylett’s lawyer said her client had struggled with his fame, BBC News reported. Waylett was cut from the last two Potter films after he was arrested in April 2009 for growing 10 marijuana plants in his mother’s northwest London home, ABC News reported.

Waylett will be eligible for release after a year in jail, Reuters reported.
