James Bond film “Skyfall” grosses $87.8 million in first three days

"Skyfall," the new James Bond film, grossed a record-breaking $87.8 million in its first three days in the US, making it the most profitable debut of any of the 007 films, Entertainment Weekly reported.

"Skyfall" is the 23rd movie, marking 50 years of Bond on the silver screen.

The earnings beat opening weekend sales in 2008 for "Quantum of Solace," which earned a notable $67.5 million, according to Entertainment Weekly.

As GlobalPost reported, the latest James Bond thriller is on track to be the biggest earning Bond film ever; In Europe, "Skyfall" has already broken earning records grossing nearly $400 million.

The film, which has received rave reviews from critics, makes numerous references to previous Bond movies as an homage to the series' 50th anniversary, according to a roundup in The Atlantic.
