Independent Spirit Awards: The anti-Oscars? (PHOTOS, VIDEO)

LOS ANGELES — The Independent Spirit Awards are the proud antithesis of the glitzy, glamor-filled Academy Awards that follow it; honoring indie films at a beachy lunch event in Santa Monica where the red carpet is actually pink.

The award show's host Andy Samberg may have put it the most bluntly:

“Oscars, f*** yourself,” Samberg said, the Daily Beast reported. “This is our Oscars, and even if we were invited, which I was not, we will not be going. Everybody say it with me: Hollywood, f*** you.”

However, the joke was greeted with mostly crickets, as this year's Independent Spirits' saw much crossover with the Oscars, and the attendees are…well, more Hollywood than ever.

Silver Linings Playbook picked up four awards, including best actress for Jennifer Lawrence, best screenplay, best film, and best director for David O Russell.

"The last time I held one of these was 19 years ago for best screenplay and best first feature [for Spanking the Monkey] and my son [Matthew] was one year old," Russell said in his acceptance. "Matthew's here today and he gave me this movie."

His son's bipolar disorder was the inspiration for the film, which Bradley Cooper's character grapples with, BBC News reportedThe movie is also up for best picture at the Oscars.

"I'm very superstitious, so I'm just very happy to be there," Russell said of his chances.

"The Sessions," based on an essay by disabled writer Mark O'Brien about hiring a sex surrogate to lose his virginity, also took home two awards, for best supporting male and female actress, E! Online reported
