Timothy Yost, a homeless man living in Texas, is now $77,000 richer after being awarded the cash and gold coins he found in a Texas park earlier this year.
Yost, 46, told police he discovered the windfall in January while going to wash his feet in the Colorado River. Yost told police he kicked a bag he'd spotted and it jingled. Inside was a bundle of wet cash and South African coins, according to the Austin American-Statesman.
When Yost went to exchange the coins and wet cash, the bank teller called the police believing some sort of crime had been committed. The city held on to the money while the police investigated whether or not a crime had been committed, Yahoo News reported.
On Tuesday, the City Council of Bastrop, where the money was found, voted unanimously to give the bounty back to Yost.
"It is a great day for Bastrop; it is a great day for Mr. Yost," his attorney, Aleta Peacock, told the American-Statesman.
Sadly, Yost was not present at the meeting. He is currently in jail serving time for public intoxication.
