Hafiz Mohammad Saeed, who has a US bounty on his head for the 2008 Mumbai terrorist attacks, taunted the American government today, challenging it to assassinate him as it did al-Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden, according to The Hindustan Times.

The founder of Lashkar-e-Taiba appeared publicly in Rawalpindi: “I am not hiding in caves and mountains, I am here in Rawalpindi,” he was quoted as saying by The Times.

The US yesterday announced a $10 million reward for information leading to Saeed’s capture. According to The Times, Saeed said he could claim the bounty himself to alleviate poverty in Baluchistan province.

According to NDTV, Saeed has led public protest in recent months against US drone strikes and the US of Pakistan to ship supplies to NATO forces in Afghanistan.

NDTV said offering the reward marked a shift in US-Pakistan relations as Pakistan says there is insufficient evidence to act against Saeed for the Mumbai attacks.
