Geraldo Rivera considers running for US Senate in NJ

Geraldo Rivera, longtime talk show host, said Thursday he's "truly" considering a run for the US Senate.

“I mention this only briefly, fasten your seatbelt,” Rivera said on his radio show Thursday, reported the Hill.

“I mentioned this only briefly to my wife … but I am and I’ve been in touch with some people in the Republican Party in New Jersey. I am truly contemplating running for Senate against Frank Lautenberg or Cory Booker.”

Newark Mayor Cory Booker has also said he is considering a run for Senate.

Democratic Senator Frank Lautenberg, 89, has not announced whether he will run again for re-election.

In a bizarre line in an interview with the Philadelphia Inquirer last week, Lautenberg said that Booker may need a "spanking," for being so eager to take his seat.

Rivera hosts a radio talk show on WABC (AM) in New York and is a regular guest on the Fox News network.

He did not elaborate on his Senate run but went on to say, reported NJ.com:

"I'm not going to drill this out, because obviously I've got commitments to Fox and to here at the radio program and I'm really having a great time."

"But I figure at my age, if I'm going to do it I've got to do it."
