Gary Connery sets record for skydive without parachute (VIDEO)

Gary Connery set a world record today by jumping 2,400 feet from a helicopter into 18,000 cardboard boxes, Sky News reported.

He was wearing a “wing suit” to coast and a parachute, but didn’t use the latter.

It took less than a minute to complete the jump at an open field near his home of Henley-on-Thames, Oxfordshire, England.

“It was so comfortable, so soft,” he told Sky News. “My calculations obviously worked out, and I’m glad they did.”

Connery, 42, reached speeds of 80 mph.

He studied kite birds to perfect his technique with the wing suit, BBC said.

Volunteers needed six hours to construct the cardboard box “runway” 350-feet long and 45-feet wide.

“Tonight will be all about celebrating with friends and family. Tomorrow I will be plotting my next daring challenge,” he said, according to BBC. “I was absolutely fine afterwards. I was completely buzzing.”

With 880 skydives and 450 base jumps to his credit, he trained by jumping from cliffs and mountains in Switzerland and Italy.

An ex-soldier, the Hollywood stuntman has numerous blockbusters to his credit, Agence France-Presse reported.

He’s appeared in Die Another Day, Batman Begins, Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets and Indiana Jones: Kingdom of the Crystal Skull.

Connery has also jumped from the Eiffel Tower and the London Eye.

His wife Vivienne, with whom he has two children, said she was “relieved it’s all over,” AFP said.
