French weapons collector dead after grenade explodes in Paris office

A French lawyer blew himself up in his Paris office on Friday after he opened a package of grenades and one exploded, the New York Post reported.  

Jerome Muriaux, a 45-year-old real estate and business lawyer and avid weapons collector, had ordered the explosives to his office in Paris' 8th arrondissement, Agence France Presse reported. He was inspecting one of the grenades when it went off.

"I suddenly heard a blast," Charly Husson, who works in an office that shares the same courtyard as the lawyer's, told AFP. "There was smoke, shattered glass. My colleague saw that the victim had his arm cut off." 

Several other people were wounded in the incident, though none badly, French daily Le Figaro reported. Dozens of police and emergency workers arrived on the scene shortly after the explosion, AFP reported. 

Police are investigating the blast, but believe it was a bizarre accident.
