The wife of a Florida police chief accidentally ran over and killed a 22-month-old boy with her sport-utility vehicle before the start of a high-school softball game Friday night.

Pamela Bodenheimer, 51, was backing her SUV up at about 5 p.m. when she hit Brady Hutto of Auburndale, Titusville police told the Orlando Sentinel.

She told investigators she did not see the toddler.

No charges have been filed against the driver, and police told Miami TV station WTVJ that there was no sign alcohol was involved.

A witness tried to perform CPR on the boy before he was taken by ambulance to a hospital, police said. He was pronounced dead soon after arrival, The Associated Press reported.

Bodenheimer's daughter and the boy's sister are teammates on the Auburndale Bloodhounds softball team. The game was postponed after the tragedy, according to the AP.

"It appears to be a tragic accident," Titusville Police Maj. Todd Hutchinson told the AP. "She was absolutely devastated," he said of Bodenheimer.
