Flier posted at Miami University dorm provides rape advice

A bizarre flier advising students on the "Top Ten Ways to Get Away with Rape" was found at a co-ed freshman dorm bathroom at Miami University in Ohio last weekend, USA Today reported. The flier, found in a men's restroom, suggests slipping roofies into a girl's drink and slitting her throat. Tip ten says: "RAPE RAPE RAPE, it's college boys (sic) live it up!!"

It's unclear if the flier is serious or if it is intended as satire. “It could have been a joke, but the fact of the matter is that those thoughts are crossing someone’s mind. There are girls living in a hall where someone came up with that,” Kate Van Fossen, vice present of Women Against Violence and Sexual Assault, told the Cincinnati Enquirer. Particularly disturbing is that the university has had 27 sexual assaults since 2009.

Van Fossen also accused Miami University of brushing the issue "under the rug," according to the Enquirer. University officials did call a mandatory meeting for male students at the dorm where the flier was found, McBride Hall. Police have launched an investigation as well.

But Van Fossen is angry that Miami's vice president for student affairs, Barbara Jones, decided not to alert students about the flier, the Cleveland Leader reported. Jones told the Leader that while she found the flier "reprehensible," that it did not pose an "immediate threat," in her mind.

"All of our evidence shows it was confined strictly to McBride Hall," Jones told the Cleveland Leader.
