Denny’s owner will raise prices, blames Obama

Denny's, the restaurant where might find yourself eating eggs and crying after doing the 5 a.m. walk of shame, is taking a stand against universal health care.

John Metz, president and owner of RREMC Restaurants, which runs approximately 40 Denny's and several Dairy Queen locations, is planning to add a 5 percent surcharge to his customers' tabs, The Huffington Post reported. The reason? Obamacare.

"If I leave the prices the same, but say on the menu that there is a 5 percent surcharge for Obamacare, customers have two choices. They can either pay it and tip 15 or 20 percent, or if they really feel so inclined, they can reduce the amount of tip they give to the server, who is the primary beneficiary of Obamacare," Metz told The Huffington Post. "Although it may sound terrible that I'm doing this, it's the only alternative. I've got to pass the cost on to the consumer."

Fox News also reported on Metz's planned surcharge. "People are trying to find ways to avoid the penalties and to avoid having to pay for Obamacare,” Metz told Fox. “Everyone’s looking for a way to not have to provide insurance for their employees. It’s essentially a huge tax on all us business people.”

But after those two reports were published, he took it all back. A representative told ABC News that while Metz will definitely be cutting back on the hours that his employees work, the 5 percent surcharge idea was "merely speculation." Whatever. Can we get some more ketchup?
