Deadly Bangladesh factory fire (PHOTOS)
At least 112 people died in what is now the deadliest fire to ever hit the country’s garment industry.
The exit door was locked.
The fire alarm sounded. But, as survivor Mohammad Ripu told the Associated Press, factory managers told workers "Nothing happened. The fire alarm had just gone out of order. Go back to work."
"Had there been at least one emergency exit through outside the factory, the casualties would have been much lower," the fire department operations director, Maj. Mohammad Mahbub told the AP.
Saturday's garment-factory fire in a Dhaka suburb Bangladesh killed at least 112 people — many were trapped inside, and some leapt out of the flaming nine-story building in attempts to escape.
On Monday, about 15,000 Bangladeshi workers protested the deadly working conditions that took so many lives, as hundreds of factories closed.
