Dan DiDio, a co-publisher of DC Comics, announced one of their returning characters will be gay. He has yet to say which one.
Super heroes come in all shape and sizes. May they be green, a caped crusader or able to talk to fish, they each are unique and everyone has a favorite. Even if you don’t have the power to climb walls, you can still find one character to both envy and relate to.
Soon the gay community may have the hero they can relate with.
On Saturday DC Comics co-publisher Dan DiDio announced plans to reintroduce an established character as gay, according to the New York Daily News.
DiDio announced the news at the Kapow Comic Convention in London according to the comic industry blog Bleeding Cool.
Instead of introducing an entirely new character, DiDio said they would be reintroducing a previously-straight superhero who will become “one of our most prominent gay characters.”

According to Web Pro News, this is not the first time that DC has reintroduced a character as gay. WPN reported, after going back to the drawing board with the “New 52″, DC released books featuring Batwoman as a lesbian and Voodoo as a bisexual. The Teen Titans franchise also features an openly gay character named Bunker.
Other comic book publishers have already introduced gay characters to the story lines of several favorite titles. According to ComicBook.com, Marvel is trying to build for Astonishing X-Men#51, which comes next month. It will reportedly feature the wedding of Northstar, who they call “arguably Marvel’s most prominent homosexual superhero” to his boyfriend Kyle.
In March the Life with Archie #16 comic sold out. The issue featured Kevin Keller, the series' first gay character, getting married to his partner.
Twitter users had varying opinions on who the now gay character would be.
