Dark Knight Rises copycat killer arrested with loaded handgun in theater

A Cleveland-area man was arrested at a "Dark Knight Rises" screening Tuesday after attempting to bring a loaded gun into the theater.

Scott Smith, a 37-year-old of North Ridgeville, near Cleveland, was apprehended after entering the theater a half-hour early with a handgun, knives and dozens of rounds of ammunition.

According to the Daily News, Smith aroused the suspicion of a security guard at the theater who demanded to search the man's satchel.

The guard, an off-duty police officer, made an arrest after finding a loaded 9mm weapon with extra ammunition and knives.

When the guard asked the man why he had a loaded gun on him, Smith said that he would put it in the car.

Smith was arrested at the theater without incident and was held without bail.

The Plain Dealer reported that Smith sat at the back of the theater in the middle, giving him a tactical advantage if he had opened fire.

The Daily News reported that a search of his home uncovered another half dozen pistols, rifles, shotguns and hundreds of rounds of ammunition.

Smith does not have a permit to carry a concealed weapon.

The man has refused to talk to police but details point to a possible copycat of last month's shooting at a Dark Knight Rises premiere in which 12 people were killed and 58 were wounded.
