Condoms do not diminish sexual pleasure: study
The LA porn industry is temporarily shutting down to combat a syphilis scare. A ballot initiative set for the November 6 election would require adult performers across Los Angeles county to wear condoms in X-rated film shoots.
Researchers at the Indiana University School of Public Health have found condoms do not decrease sexual pleasure despite that common misperception.
The study, published in The Journal of Sexual Medicine, asked over 1,600 men and women ages 18 to 59 a number of questions and found that both genders said sex was "highly arousing" whether or not they used condoms or lube.
Those surveyed were asked if they used a condom or lubricant, and which type, during sex, CBS News reported.
In total, about 28 percent of men and 22 percent of women said they used condoms, however, only half the women knew whether the condom had been lubricated.
The research also found women do not buy condoms as often as men and men reported no significant difference in erection or orgasm with a condom or lube.
Debby Herbenick, an author of the study from Indiana University, released a statement explaining "We need to understand how people make choices about the products they use, or avoid using, and how these products contribute to the safety and pleasurable aspects of their sexual experiences."
