Charlie Sheen donates $1 million to USO
Charlie Sheen has pledged to give the USO 1 percent of his new television show’s profits. He has guaranteed a minimum of $1 million.
Charlie Sheen seems to be turning over a new leaf. The sitcom star has announced he will be donating a minimum of $1 million to the USO. Sheen added that if his new television show, "Anger Management", is a hit that he will give 1 percent of the show's profits with no donation cap.
In a news release Sheen said, "It's an honor for me to be able to give back to these men and women of the military who have done so much for all of us. They put their lives on the line for us every day, and I'm just happy that my work on 'Anger Management' can bring a little bit of relief to the troops and their families."
The New York Daily News reported that the USO has earmarked the first installment of $250,000 for the Operation Enduring Care campaign, which is helping to build two new USO Centers to support ill and injured troops and their families. One will be at Walter Reed/Bethesda Hospital in Bethesda, Maryland, the other at Fort Belvoir, N.J.
John Pray Jr., retired Air Force brigadier general and the USO's executive vice president, said in a statement to CNN, "His support is greatly appreciated, especially from our wounded warriors and their families."
