Cat video film festival to take place this summer
Fat Boy, an obese cat, has become an unexpected mascot and celebrity cat for the Moose Jaw Humane Society in Saskatchewan, Canada, since the organization began chronicling his strict weight-loss diet on their Facebook site.
Another sign that cats are secretly planning world domination: cat videos are coming to the movie theater. The Walker Art Center in Minnesota is currently taking submissions for the world's first Internet Cat Video Film Festival.
The festival is scheduled to take place on August 30 in Minneapolis. For about an hour, it will screen some of the internet's most popular viral videos. "It is an experiment," festival organizer Katie Czarniecki Hill told the Los Angeles Times. "It will be interesting to see if people think it is silly, or great, or a waste of time. But I like the idea of everyone admitting they like cat videos."

The festival represents the internet's intense fascination with cats. For example, the I Can Haz Cheezburger blog, which creates cat memes, gets more than a million hits each day, BBC News reported.
Dog videos have also garnered millions of hits. Still, friendly dogs don't quite have the same appeal to internet users that cunning and mysterious cats do. "The internet loves the idea that cats are in the know," a viral video expert told the BBC. "They've got the answer, and they might just tell us some day."
Fans can nominate videos they want to see in the festival through the event website.
