Cannibal cult arrested for making penis soup

Members of an alleged cannibal cult in Papua New Guinea have been arrested and accused of killing at least seven people and eating their brains raw and making soup from their penises, the AFP reported.

The cult, which amassed nearly 1,000 followers, formed to combat errant sorcerers who reportedly had begun charging exorbitant fees for their services.

The Telegraph reported that the cost of a witch doctor revealing a cause of death or casting out an evil spirit was usually 1000 kina ($472) cash, plus a pig and a bag of rice. Some were also demanding sex for their services, something cult leaders did not take lightly.

One leader told the AFP, "It's against our traditional ethics and morals for a sorcerer to have intercourse with a man's wife or teenage daughter."

One cult member admitted to police, "We ate their brains raw and took body parts such as livers, hearts, penis and others back to the hausman (traditional men's houses) for our chief trainers to create other powers for the members to use."

The Associated Press reported that cult members believe by eating witch doctors' organs, they would attain supernatural powers and literally become bullet-proof.

Madang Police Commander Anthony Wagambie told the Associated Press that 4 of the 7 victims were likely murdered last week, but there were no remains to prove this. He added, "They're probably all eaten up."
