An Australian teenager has been charged with the attempted murder of a 14-year-old girl, allegedly stabbing her in the schoolyard after she broke up with him on Facebook.
The boy, a 16-year-old student at the same Catholic college — St Columban's College, according to the ABC — reportedly handed himself in to the police after the incident.
The police cited students who witnessed the assault as saying the girl was stabbed in the head, neck, back and forearms, the Brisbane Times reported.
A spokeswoman for the Royal Brisbane and Women's Hospital reportedly said the girl was released from hospital this afternoon.
The school, which was declared a crime scene, was quickly shut and students were asked to stay inside the chapel on campus or go home.

The ABC wrote that the girl had been at sports training at the school when she was stabbed near a toilet block.
‘‘The actual motive and the reasons for the incident happening haven’t been established,’’ BT quoted Inspector Crawford-Raby as saying.
Principal Anne Rebgetz said the girl's screams alerted teachers, who rushed to give first aid, according to the Australian Associated Press.
"The other students are obviously quite distressed and some of them were there when it happened," she told reporters.
