A year after they split, Ashton Kutcher and Demi Moore are set to divorce.
TMZ reported 34-year-old Kutcher took the first steps Friday, filing documents in LA County Superior Court, citing irreconcilable differences.
Sources told the gossip website Kutcher was waiting for Moore to file divorce papers first but when there was no movement, he decided to do it.
The Twitter-happy Kutcher alluded to the development on Thursday when he tweeted that "2012 has been the year for new and bigger things".
According to reports, the settlement will be much quicker because the couple had no children together, meaning the issue of child support and parental visitation is not an issue, People magazine reported.
The property rights of the famous couple will be worked through later.
The couple announced the end of their six-year union last November, after claims Kutcher had cheated on Moore with a 22-year-old model, USA Today reported.
"As a woman, a mother and a wife there are certain values and vows that I hold sacred, and it is in this spirit that I have chosen to move forward with my life," Moore said at the time.
Kutcher praised Moore, saying: "I will forever cherish the time I spent with Demi. Marriage is one of the most difficult things in the world and unfortunately sometimes they fail."
Since their split, Kutcher has had a very public relationship with his former "That '70s Show" co-star Mila Kunis, 29.
