Ashley Moser, Colorado shooting victim who lost daughter, 6, suffers miscarriage

Ashley Moser, who lost her 6-year-old daughter when James Holmes allegedly opened fire in a packed Colorado movie theater a week ago, has suffered a miscarriage.

The family of Moser, 25, who suffered gunshot wounds to her neck and abdomen during the rampage, said in a statement that the trauma caused the miscarriage, the Associated Press reported.

Moser herself — one of 11 victims still recovering at three hospitals, including five in critical condition, according to CNN — was recovering, the statement said.

However: "Tragically, the extreme trauma she sustained also caused a miscarriage."

It continued: 

"We want to send a special thank you to the courageous heroes of law enforcement, other first responders, paramedics, and doctors and nurses who have all gone beyond the call-of-duty in caring for our daughter, granddaughter and all of the other victims of this tragic event.

"Our sincere appreciation goes out to all of those who have been sending well-wishes, prayers and good thoughts to Ashley. Her lifetime of care will be a long road. The Jefferson County sheriff's office declined to release details and the family declined to speak to the media.

Moser's daughter, Veronica, was the youngest person killed in the July 20 attack at a midnight showing of the new Batman movie, "The Dark Knight Rises," in Aurora.

Funeral plans for the girl remained pending, the family said.

NBC reported that Moser and her daughter had, until recently, lived with Moser's father, David Moser, but that he had died two months ago, aged 65, after a 10-month battle with leukemia.
