Amanda Bynes pleads ‘not guilty’ to DUI; tweets at Obama for help

LOS ANGELES — Amanda Bynes plead "not guilty" to a DUI charge on Wednesday, but enlisted President Obama's assistance as a back-up, Reuters reported. 

The actress and comedian was charged for drunk driving on April 6, when her BMW allegedly struck a sheriff's patrol car in West Hollywood, California, City News Service reported. Bynes reportedly declined to take a drug test or Breathalyzer test at the scene of the accident, TMZ reported.

Bynes did not appear in Beverly Hills Superior Court Wednesday, opting to send her attorney on her behalf, according to the Hollywood Reporter. She faces a maximum of six months in jail, according to TMZ. 

Shortly after issuing her plea, Bynes tweeted: 

The President has yet to respond to the request.

Amanda Bynes' DUI is only the most recent in a series of incidents involving the actress: She's also "been seen backing over a curb while texting, holding up traffic while attempting a three-pointed U-turn, and sideswiping another vehicle," according to the Reporter. 

The actress found fame on Nickelodeon's TV variety show "All That" as a child, which led to her own series, "The Amanda Show." She has also starred in films including "She's the Man," "Hairspray," and "Easy A." 

Her pre-trial is scheduled for July 18.
