Air New Zealand uses “Man v Wild” star Bear Grylls in latest inflight safety video

Air New Zealand, which famously had Hobbits and other characters from "Lord of the Rings" starring in its inflight safety video, has this time used "Man v Wild" star Bear Grylls.

The British adventurer star of the carrier's latest safety video, "The Bear Essentials of Safety."

Previously, Air New Zealand featured flight attendants in nothing but body paint, fitness guru Richard Simmons and the All Blacks rugby team.

A Hobbit-themed video, playing on New Zealand's fame as the setting for Peter Jackson's "Lord of the Rings" trilogy, was the carrier's most popular to date, clocking up more than 10 million views on YouTube.

Grylls filmed the four-and-a-half minute clip on the Routeburn Track near Fiordland in New Zealand’s South Island, according to TVNZ.

He features alongside some of New Zealand's best-known native fauna, including a kea, a tuatara and native glow worms — and even the flightless and extinct moa, the Fairfax media wrote.

His costars in the video are three young Scouts, who mistake the drop down air mask for a portable toilet.

During the clip, he mixes survival tips with sage advice and messages from the airline.

He also demonstrates his more familiar trait — a propensity to eat strange things, gobbling a glow worm for the camera.

And while there are no shots of a plane interior, plane seats and passengers appear in various stunning outdoor locations, CNN notes.
