12-12-12: Paul McCartney to sub for Kurt Cobain as Nirvana plays Sandy benefit
Musician Sir Paul McCartney will receive the French legion of honor in Paris on September 8, 2012.
NEW YORK — Paul McCartney is expected to substitute for Kurt Cobain Wednesday evening when Nirvana plays a 12-12-12 Sandy benefit at Madison Square Garden in New York City.
The former Beatle will not be the only mega-star at the concert. Rock legends Rolling Stones, Eric Clapton, Kayne West and The Who are all on tap for the star-studded benefit, the Guardian reported.
According to the paper, McCartney will join band members Dave Grohl and bassist Krist Novoselic on stage "to play a new song after secretly working with the pair."
Grohl reportedly recently asked McCartney to "jam with some mates" and they "just make something up," according to the Guardian.
Kurt Cobain, the former lead singer of the grunge rock band Nirvana, committed suicide in April 1994.

The New York Daily News, citing The Sun, reported McCartney allegedly said "I didn't really know who they were."
Producers say the concert, which will be televised live, could reach as many as 2 billion people, the News wrote.
