Editor's Note: Mark Kelly's office has since told GlobalPost the person who said "drown the dog" was a bystander and not Kelly.

Amateur video showing Mark Kelly, the ex-astronaut husband of Gabrielle Giffords, pulling a dog off a baby sea lion at a California beach over the weekend, has been posted on YouTube.

The attack, reportedly by a dog belonging to Kelly's daughter — Giffords' stepdaughter — happened at Laguna Beach, where Giffords and Kelly were vacationing.

In the video, Kelly's screaming daughter tries to pull her dog — a large American bulldog mix — away from the sea lion.

Someone can be heard saying "drown the dog" in the video before Kelly steps in and rips the dog off the animal.

Reports suggest that the sea lion was dead before the dog loosed its grip, although an Associated Press story suggests that it died later.

Laguna Beach police told The Los Angeles Times the attack happened near an exclusive resort.

Kelly reportedly crated the dog before returning to talk to police about the incident.

The Times cited Capt. Jason Kravetz as saying that the police did not cite the dog's owner "because it was legal for her to have the dog on the beach this time of year, and she did have it leashed. It was so strong that it pulled free of her when it saw the [sea lion]."
