LOS ANGELES — Fans of the TV detective series 'Veronica Mars' raised more than $2.5 million online to take the show to the silver screen.

The 'Veronica Mars' Kickstarter campaign surpassed their original goal of $2 million in a single day with more than 50,000 contributions, reports the NY Daily News.

Both the show's creator Rob Thomas and star Kristen Bell said they were on board to make the movie and Warner Bros., which owns the rights to the series, agreed to pay for marketing and distribution costs, reports NBC News.

Bell, who starred in the series as a young detective, promised to make the "sleuthiest, snarkiest" movie possible.

"You have banded together like the sassy little honey badgers you are and made this possibility happen," Bell said in an online message.

Anyone who donated cash will receive different thank you gifts based on the amount they pledged.

According to NBC, those who pledged just $10 will receive an emailed version of the script and the person who shelled out $10,000 will get a walk-on part as a waiter and deliver the line, "Your check, sir."

According to ABC, the film is slated for a 2014 limited release.
