Four people were killed in an exchange of fire in Russia's Dagestan on Thursday, according to Russian reports.
The shootout in Karabudakhkent left several dead; Russian agencies said at least two militants were killed while Itar-Tass reportedly said a Russian commander also "got a lethal wound.”
"The two suspects were killed while resisting police," an unnamed Russian inspector told Russia's Interfax, according to Reuters.
The two are believed to have opened fire on security forces and Reuters said one of them had a grenade. They reportedly ran for it after being approached by the police, leading to an exchange of fire.
Dagestan is located in Russia's volatile North Caucasus region, which in recent years has become a hotbed of militant activity.
