Ryan Gosling and Charlize Theron are rumored to be in talks to play alleged murderer Oscar Pistorius and his girlfriend in a new movie.

Gosling is said to be the first choice to play the leading role in an upcoming biopic about the former-hero and Olympic sprinter, and Theron is expected to play Reeva Steenkamp, the girlfriend Pistorius allegedly shot dead in his Pretoria home on Valentine's Day.

"You've got one of the world's most famous sportsmen under arrest and a beautiful young woman who meets a violent death," an anonymous source told the Sun. "Scripts began doing the rounds within days of the scandal breaking.

"Ryan has the kind of quiet magnetism that would make this project work — plus there's some mystery about him.

"Although Ryan has been saying publicly that he wants to take a break from acting to relax, executives will be falling over themselves to woo him once the scripts are finalized."

But Gosling and Theron haven confirmed their participation in any film yet. In fact, Gosling recently said he wanted to take a break from acting so that people wouldn't get sick of him.

"I've lost perspective on what I'm doing. I think it's good for me to take a break and reassess why I'm doing it and how I'm doing it," he said. "And I think this is probably a good way to learn about that. I need a break from myself as much as I imagine the audience does."

Pistorius, who is out on bail, hasn't denied shooting Steenkamp, but said it was unintentional as he mistook her for an intruder in his home.
