Roger Ebert’s cancer returns

Chicago Sun-Times' film critic Roger Ebert announced that his cancer has returned. In a blog post, he said he is taking a "leave of presence" as he gets treated with radiation. But he promises to keep writing reviews, just not as many.

“It means I am not going away. My intent is to continue to write selected reviews but to leave the rest to a talented team of writers handpicked and greatly admired by me. What’s more, I’ll be able at last to do what I’ve always fantasized about doing: reviewing only the movies I want to review.”

Ebert became the Chicago Sun-Times' film critic exactly 46 years ago today, according to the Chicago Tribune. In 1975 he became the first film critic to win the Pulitzer Prize for Criticism. He has been struggling his health since getting diagnosed with thyroid cancer in 2002.

Ebert authored more than 300 reviews last year, the Associated Press reported. He also announced plans to relaunch his website and blog about his illness.
